What is Modern?

Modern dance is a free and expressive style of dance.  It began in the 20th century as a reaction and rebellion against the strict rules of classical ballet dance.  Dancers get to experience a more relaxed and creative class experience; such as dancing in bare feet, learning to use breath in their movements, rolling, falling, and having more opportunities to assert themselves freely.

What is Lyrical Dance?

While Ballet highlights technique, Lyrical dance showcases expressive and dramatic movement.  Lyrical dance is designed to tell a story by creating movement that follows the story of a song.

What is Jazz?

Jazz technique has its origins grounded in social dance, when African American dancers began blending their traditional dance steps with European styles of movement.  It teaches rhythmic and dynamic movement, and is paired with popular music styles.  Students learn to isolate movements, turning techniques, jumping techniques, and fast movement phrases to popular songs.

What is Musical Theater?

Musical Theater is a jazz-based class that incorporates Broadway music and style. This form of dancing teaches performance skills such as stage presence, methods of connecting with the audience, and facial expressions.
